What are galactagogues

Galactagogues are substances that breastfeeding moms use in order to boost their milk supply.

A few studies have been done involving fenugreek and its effects on boosting milk supply:

1. Swafford 2000

2. Reeder 2011

3. Turkyilmaz 2011

What are galactagogues

Fenugreek is one of the most frequently used galactagogues and is known for showing the best results with mothers trying to increase their milk supply. Mothers turn to galactagogues in general when wanting to increase their lactation effectively. Mothers also use these herbs when they need assistance with increasing their milk supply, when they want to start pumping more. After taking the herb fenugreek, mothers will generally notice an increase in their milk supply 24-72 hours after first taking it. For some mothers this process may take up to 2 weeks before they see a difference. In some cases, moms do not experience a difference at all. These statistics were found thanks to the three popular studies listed above.
