Galactagogues are ingredients that increase milk production. They have been used for centuries by humanity to help nursing mom boost their milk supply. Galactagogues could be found in some kind of foods or herbs. Here is the list of galactagogues- herbs that increase breastmilk production and foods that would help you increase your milk supply. 

Galactagogues - Herbs that Increase Breastmilk Production

Galactagogues - herbs are used in lactation tea mixes or added to lactation teas or lactation smoothies and cookies.

Fenugreek – is one of the best and popular herbs for increasing milk production. It has been used for centuries as a lactation remedy and as a spice. Fenugreek comes in different forms: fenugreek capsules, fenugreek tablets, lactation drinks such as pre-mama lactation and milkflow added fenugreek to their mixes.

Breastfeeding moms that supplement with fenugreek must use it with consistency for best results.  

Fennel - this herb is popular for increasing breastmilk production, and at the same time could  help with gas or upset stomach. It is used sometimes in the lactation tea mix.

Blessed Thistle - also known as “Lady’s Milk Thistle" has been used to increase breastmilk production. It has bitter taste and is considered to be healthful for the liver and digestion.

Goat’s Rue - Goat's Rue is a herb for stimulating milk production and increasing the milkflow of breastmilk.

Some foods that are believed to improve milk supply:

  • Dark, leafy greens (alfalfa, kale, spinach, broccoli)
